Rock Creek Loop Professional Review and Guide
"This is an excellent loop hike from the foothills high into the steep country east of Four Peaks. The Chillicut Trail, a former jeep road, climbs gradually southwest up an unnamed tributary of Rock Creek onto a ridge. The climb steepens as the trail swings south toward a low pass. After crossing through the pass at 2.0 miles, the trail contours into Baldy Canyon, crosses the tributary from below Alder Saddle, then starts a steep climb up a ridge. After the trail crosses a spur ridge, the climb moderates and the trail returns to the bed of Baldy Canyon. The climb steepens again in the upper part of the canyon. After passing Chillicut Spring, the trail veers onto a ridge to the east and climbs steeply to the top of Buckhorn Mountain at 5.7 miles. Here it meets the Four Peaks Trail."
