A hike with excellent views of the east side of Mingus Mountain and the Verde Valley. The first 0.8 mile of the trail climbs steeply up a brushy slope to the rim of Mingus Mountain. There are good views of upper Black Canyon in the foreground, and beyond, the Black Hills. After the trail reaches the rim, it crosses to the north side of the flat-topped ridge, where the view is superb. The red-rock country around Sedona is visible, as is San Francisco Mountain and most of the western Mogollon Rim.
