This eTrail is a detailed description of an adventurous loop through the Grand Canyon backcountry. Here is an excerpt from this eTrail's route description. "Going up on Shinumo Creek beyond White Creek is a struggle. It isn’t really very difficult, but it is a struggle, though nice pools make pleasant swimming in hot weather. Without packs, you should, in a day’s time, be able to get at least as far as the Merlin/Modred junction. There are some large and inviting pools where the Tapeats comes out, so be sure to go at least that far. Rainbow Plateau Loop Both arms of Shinumo are fun to explore. My wife saw a good-sized waterfall in the Modred arm. About an hour beyond the Modred junction, the creek turns sharply east and in another hour turns north again. This fault ravine leads to the rim if you are of an adventurous frame of mind."
