This classic Grand Canyon loop takes you through spectacular Jumpup and Kanab Canyons, along the Colorado River, past the beauty of Deer Creek Falls and Thunder River, and along a gorgeous section of the Esplanade. Hiking this loop counterclockwise gets you through Jumpup and Kanab Canyons at the start of the hike, when your weather forecast is still reasonably current. Neither canyon is a place to be during a flood, although escape from rising water is possible most of the time. Going counterclockwise also lets you finish the hike, which is mostly cross-country, on the Deer Creek and Thunder River Trails.
