Greer, South Fork, and Sunrise Professional Review and Guide
"Greer is perched at 8,525 feet, which makes it an ideal destination year-round. The area is a sportsman’s paradise that offers fishing, backpacking, ice skating, sleigh rides, and downhill and cross-country skiing. In cooperation with the U.S. Forestry Service, Greer has developed 35 miles of cross-country ski trails. Sunrise Park Resort is a fully developed downhill ski area with a lodge, restaurant, and ski school located on the White Mountain Apache Indian Reservation. The mountains offer a variety of challenges, and the snow is often excellent.
Open all year long, in the summer the area is a center for hiking and mountain biking as well as fishing and sailing on Sunrise Lake. Horseback riding, in-line skating, archery tournaments, and volleyball are also scheduled. This chapter from the DayTrips series describes many fascinating, exciting, (and many free of charge) things to do, most within a two-hour drive of Phoenix. Each Day Trip includes destination highlights, places to visit along the way, choice restaurants and lodging, and shopping."
