North Bass Trail to Muav Cabin

North Bass Trail to Muav Cabin Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This is a half-day out-and-back hike travels from a remote North Rim trailhead to a historic cabin below the rim. Historic Muav Cabin rests in a pine grove just north of Muav Saddle, a prominent notch separating the North Rim from isolated Powell Plateau. The cabin is easily reached via the best segment of the North Bass Trail, one of the most difficult and demanding trails in the Grand Canyon.

Much of the scenery en route is quite different from any other area in the Grand Canyon. Erosion along the Muav Fault has softened the abrupt edges of the North Rim and upper Muav Canyon, which has a broad, V-shaped profile. Soils in Muav Canyon are well developed, and dense brush forms a perpetually green veneer that masks the broken, rocky slopes."
