Salt River Recreation Center and Saguaro Lake Professional Review and Guide
"For a real change of pace, take a short drive and a long float down the river. Saguaro Lake was formed by Stewart Mountain Dam and is one of the several lakes built for water reclamation purposes. You can find out all about tubing at the central office, including where to get in and out on the Salt River. Tubing is fast becoming Arizona’s state sport, as a visit to the Blue Point area of the Salt River will attest on any hot day.
Follow the signs to the recreation area’s parking lot. Here you’ll find a place to rent inner tubes and a bus that takes you to the “put in” spot. Getting into the river involves a slippery descent. While you’re tubing, pay attention to signs so you know when to get off the Salt River. At the designated spot, there will be a bus to take you back to the parking lot where you left your car. This chapter from the DayTrips series describes many fascinating, exciting, (and many free of charge) things to do, most within a two-hour drive of Phoenix. Each Day Trip includes destination highlights, places to visit along the way, choice restaurants and lodging, and shopping."
