This is a longer loop, involving cross-country hiking, through upper Sycamore Canyon. This route uses the Kelsey Trail, the bed of Sycamore Canyon, and the Winter Cabin and Dorsey Trails to complete a loop from the east rim to the bottom of Sycamore Canyon and return. Highlights include ponderosa pine rim forests and the classic riparian corridor along Sycamore Canyon. Hiking counter-clockwise lets you confirm that Sycamore Canyon is passable early in the loop. During the spring, runoff from snowmelt may make the canyon bed impassable.
