An enjoyable hike on a well-graded trail that winds around Fremont and Agassiz Peaks in the Kachina Peaks Wilderness. When the trail emerges into a large meadow at the foot of Fremont Peak, it starts to switchback. You’ll pass the Kachina Trail turnoff after one of these switchbacks, and then the trail crosses the meadow and enters the forest. The slope steepens as the trail swings around a small meadow. A series of broad switchbacks takes you up the southeast slopes of Fremont Peak. The old road crosses several large avalanche paths, and a final switchback leads into Doyle Saddle, the goal for the hike. The view from this saddle is especially fine, overlooking the Interior Valley with its surrounding alpine peaks, and the lower Mount Elden–Dry Lake Hills complex to the south.
