Partly on trail and partly crosscountry, this loop takes you to the summit of 10,083-foot Schultz Peak, the lowest peak of the San Francisco Peaks’ five major peaks, via the historic Weatherford Trail and returns via a cross-country descent with expansive views of the pine-forested Coconino Plateau and the Mogollon Rim. Optionally, you can loop over a higher summit, Doyle Peak. This loop is best hiked clockwise because the climb is more gradual and it simplifies routefinding on the crosscountry portion of the loop.
