Another short trail in the West Clear Creek Wilderness providing access to West Clear Creek. The Maxwell Trail descends in a series of switchbacks and then traverses to the west for a short distance before resuming the steep descent to the canyon bottom. At the creek, which flows all year, a lush, riparian habitat is encountered, a strong contrast to the dry plateau at the trailhead. It is very rewarding to explore cross-country both upstream and downstream from the end of the trail.
