The trail to Long Lake travels along a graded dirt road through a pinyon-juniper forest and meadows in the Coconino National Forest. The trail is easygoing for the most part, with only a couple of slightly rough patches. In dry weather, it is suitable for a passenger vehicle. In wet weather, the dirt sections crossing open meadows can become difficult even for 4WD vehicles. The trail crosses through Jacks Canyon at a more gentle gradient and at a less dramatic place than Northeast #35: Chavez Draw Trail, but is pretty nevertheless. There are many smaller trails to explore off the main trail. One of the nicest is the Chavez Draw Trail which follows a formed road down Chavez Draw to Arizona 87. Long Lake at the end of the trail is a popular fishing spot for Long Lake.
