This unique hike features glacial valleys and quaking aspen groves. It’s a fine sample of San Francisco Mountain. The trail, which is not shown on the topographic map, climbs gradually southwest through fine stands of quaking aspen, ponderosa pine and the occasional limber pine. The valley floor is broad and fairly flat, though cut by numerous small gullies. If you take the time to walk to either side of the valley, you’ll notice that the bordering slopes are very steep. This is characteristic of valleys carved by glaciers. The moving ice shapes the entire valley into a broad U-shape.
