Lockett Meadow - Waterline Loop Professional Review and Guide
"This unique hike features alpine valleys and quaking aspen groves. It provides a fine sample of the glacial and volcanic features of San Francisco Mountain, and is a great “fall color” hike. Follow the Inner Basin Trail (not shown on the topographic map), which climbs gradually southwest through fine stands of quaking aspen, ponderosa pine, and the occasional limber pine. The valley floor is broad and fairly flat, though cut by numerous small gullies. If you take the time to walk to either side of the valley, you will notice that the bordering slopes are very steep. This is characteristic of valleys carved by glaciers. The moving ice shapes the entire valley into a broad U-shape. Valleys carved entirely by water have a V-shaped cross section."
