Little Elden Trail

Little Elden Trail Professional Review and Guide

"An enjoyable hike on the Dry Lake Hills and Elden Mountain, featuring a variety of scenery, from cool fir forest to open, scenic views. Almost immediately, the trail enters the old Radio Burn. This human-caused forest fire started at the south base of the mountain in June 1977.

High winds and hot weather fanned the fire into an inferno that rapidly climbed the south face, threatening the fire lookout and radio sites on the summit, as well as the beautiful pine and fir forest. Heavy application of aerial retardant saved most of the summit facilities, but the forest on the summit and northeast slopes of Elden Mountain was totally destroyed."
