As its name suggests, the Inner Basin is a sheltered area surrounded by the impressive San Francisco Peaks. In geologic terms, however, it is much more than a beautiful montane landscape. The Inner Basin is actually the inside of an ancient volcano, one that came to a fiery end eons ago.

This is a beautiful trail. I did this with my Mom and brother in mid-October when the aspens were yellow. The hike was a perfect distance for a day-hike with family and I was impressed that my Mom made it all the way to the basin (she's 60). Highly recommended.
