This trek follows a jeep trail to Red Rock Spring, then enters the Chiricahua Wilderness and becomes a footpath running all the way to the summit of Sage Peak. It features some fantastic stone pinnacles along the way, and typically receives less traffic than other trails in the Rucker Canyon Recreation Area. From FR 354, turn east onto a jeep trail marked with signs for Red Rock Canyon. Bear left as a jeep track bound for Coal Pit Tank splits away to the southeast. The Red Rock Canyon trail runs eastward from this intersection, crossing flat savannahs of live oak. This area is a favorite haunt of the Coues white-tailed deer. Low foothills define the mouth of Red Rock Canyon, and rocky palisades adorn the peaks beyond.
