Heading over to the Sierra Ancha Mountains northeast of Roosevelt Lake, you encounter Coon Creek and a nice little cliff dwelling hidden in the lower part of the drainage. Although fairly small, the ruin is relatively well preserved, and compared to most other cliff dwellings in the Sierra Ancha, it’s not very difficult to reach. This place has all the elements of a typical cliff dwelling. It’s located under a natural rock shelter, it overlooks a creek, and it has brownish-red walls of rock and mud that enable it to blend in perfectly with its surroundings. Of course, if you’ve never seen a cliff dwelling without a fence around it, this site is as unique as any other.
