This loop takes you through the rugged Wet Bottom Creek region of the northwestern Mazatzal Mountains. You’ll start along the Verde River, a designated Wild and Scenic River within the Mazatzal Wilderness and a rare example of an Arizona desert river. Another segment traverses the East Verde Rim, a north-facing escarpment overlooking the East Verde River and the Mogollon Rim country. The maximum group size is 15 persons and the maximum stay is 14 days. Some of the trails are little used and can be difficult to follow. You should gain experience on easier trails in the Mazatzal Wilderness before tackling this trip. Carry both the U.S.F.S. wilderness map and the U.S.G.S. topos.
