This long loop hike features a scenic cross-country walk through the Sonoran desert as well as a section of the Mazatzal Divide Trail/Arizona Trail along the pine-forested crest of the Mazatzal Mountains. Because a section of the main loop is cross-country, at least one member of the party should have cross-country desert hiking experience. Less experienced groups should do the Willow Spring Trail-Deadman Trail Option, which is entirely on trail. Most of the springs and creeks are seasonal, and may go dry in drought years.
