This is a loop hike in the Sonoran Desert foothills at relatively low elevations. It’s a good hike to do when the high country is snowy or muddy. The trails on this route are little used and can be difficult to find, so you should have both the USGS maps and the USDAFS wilderness map, as well as skill in routefinding, before attempting this hike. Because the former road crossing at Horseshoe Dam is now closed to the public, most hikers will have to start this hike from the Horseshoe Dam Parking Area.
