Superstition Ridgeline Professional Review and Guide
"Siphon Draw Trail and the Flatiron capture the rugged beauty of the Superstition Mountains and package the essence of this wondrous wilderness into a short but very challenging hike."

Challenging and beautiful! Definitely a trip worth making - if you are in shape. We did the east to west route, as recommended. Started just after the crack of dawn. First two hours were a grueling up hill climb, a lot of scrambling, but a lot of fun. Once you get to the ridgeline, the next few hours are awesome views and undulating terrain. Very easy compared to the climb to the top. Love the hoodoos! Hated the wind. We unfortunately had high wind conditions that day, although it made for cooler temps. Be prepared with layers, depending on the time of year you go. We found it very easy to navigate with the cairns. There were a few places along the ridgeline where the trail becomes less obvious. I found myself definitely looking forward to getting to Syphon Draw - that is until I actually got there! Very intimidating to look down the canyon and think "I'm going down there?!" To start things off, there was a vertical 14' drop, but it ended up not being a problem at all. Actually the easiest part of the descent. The 2 miles down hill was very difficult on my knees. I actually would much rather climb it than go down it, but didn't really have a choice at that point. Please be prepared that once you are down, you are definitely not through. There is another good distance to the parking lot (seems like miles!) through loose gravel. I was ready for it to be over at that point, but it just wouldn't end. It was definitely a full day - it took us around 10 hours, but we took some good breaks and I was REALLY slow coming down.
