This hike, near Mesa, provides some desert solitude without a long drive. The tradeoff, though, is that the trail is steep and hard to follow asyou makeyour wID' through the relativeJy pristine desert that surrounds the Goldfield Mountains. After a steep climb up Peak 3163, You cross that saddle that separates it from Bull Dog Ridge and then follow the rock cairns around the backside of this mountain. The return route is a portion of the popular and well-beaten trail around neighboring Pass Mountain. OUTSTANDING FEATURES: Rock formations, cacti, a chance to test your way-finding skills.
