Strayhorse Loop Professional Review and Guide
"This loop takes you through the remote southwest corner of the Blue Range Primitive Area and includes a unique section of hiking along the Blue River. You are unlikely to see any other people on this hike. In fact, it has the flavor of hiking in Arizona before the recreation explosion, when trailheads were rarely marked, backcountry trails were almost unused, and trail signs often missing.
This is a demanding hike due to the condition of the trails. Although the Forest Service wilderness map shows this entire loop as following system trails, the trails receive little maintenance. The trail down Strayhorse Canyon is now mostly a blazed route and should be considered cross-country, although there are occasional sections of good trail."
