Bear Mountain Professional Review and Guide
"A fine backpack trip through two scenic canyons and along a portion of the Mogollon Rim in the Blue Range Primitive Area. The U.S. Forest Service, which led the way in protecting roadless areas administratively, designated the Blue Range as a Primitive Area. Under the Wilderness Act of 1964, many primitive areas were protected as permanent wilderness areas. Since that time, the remaining primitive areas have been added to the National Wilderness System, until only the Blue Range Primitive Area remains. Even the portion of the primitive area lying in New Mexico is now the Blue Range Wilderness. Conservation groups are showing renewed interest in wilderness area protection, and perhaps this time the Blue Range will be protected. The area certainly deserves wilderness status."
