Grass Canyon Loop Professional Review and Guide
"A long day hike or backpack in the northern Ajo Mountains. It crosses cactus-rich bajada slopes that offer sweeping views of the valley, then penetrates the northern end of the Ajo Range to take in some of the most striking mountain scenery in the monument."
--Erik Molvar, Hiking Arizona's Cactus Country (Falcon Guides).
did alamo canyon portion of the loop to old ranch house and corral. nice easy walk, generally flat.
It was a real adventure NOT to have a trail to follow. Rugged, secluded and warm, this was a fabulous New Year's Eve get-away. Camped on the saddle we enjoyed the quiet crimson sun set on a good year. Just east up the ridge was a formation, looking like an Eagle's head, overhanging a spiritual 'secret spot' that held our contemplative souls in awe.
