River Trail Professional Review and Guide
"This trail winds through a pine-and-hardwood forest along the Little Missouri River. For a truly unique hiking experience, you must try this place. It’s the only diamond area in North America that is open to the public. A nominal fee gains you admittance to the “field of dreams,” where you can search for diamonds and keep what you find. More than 70,000 diamonds have been found at the “Crater,” an eroded volcanic pipe and the eighth largest diamond reserve in the world.
Benches are provided along the trail, which is marked with yellow blazes. Heading away from the campground area, the path travels through low-lying wetlands scattered with intermittent streams and moistland plant species. Wildlife that might be encountered include armadillo, pileated woodpecker, white-tailed deer, squirrel, goldfinches, and snakes."
