Saline River: Shady Lake to AR 246 Professional Review and Guide
"The Saline River originates near the Caney Creek Wilderness Area in the Ouachita Mountains and flows a short distance to Shady Lake. Do not confuse this stream with the Saline River in Saline County. When rains cause sufficient water to spill over the overflow dam at Shady Lake Reservoir, paddlers are treated to a very narrow and fast class III run below the lake. The stream is constricted by limbs and bushes that often cause obstructions, so be careful when attempting this run. The run is for experienced paddlers who are comfortable with eddy turns and have good boat control. Paddlers can expect hardwood forests lining the banks, which totally restrict the views of the surrounding land. Abundant plant and animal life are also part of the landscape."
