Talimena Scenic Drive: Mena to U.S. Highway 271, AR/OK Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"A 54-mile drive beginning at Mena, Arkansas, and winding along mountain ridges with spectacular views. Talimena Scenic Drive is perhaps the most impressively scenic of all the drives in both the Ozarks and the Ouachita Mountains. This highway was intentionally built as a scenic drive across the long and narrow Rich and Winding Stair mountains because of the dramatic and far-ranging views afforded in all directions.
Special attractions: Queen Wilhelmina State Park and Lodge, Robert S. Kerr Memorial Arboretum and Nature Center, Ouachita Trail, Winding Stair Mountain National Recreation Area, and Ouachita National Forest; fall colors, scenic/interpretive vistas, “dwarf” or “elfin” forests, rock glaciers, hiking, camping, horseback riding, historical sites, and hunting. This eTrail is a complete description of a scenic drive with a route map and information on the best travel seasons, interesting sites, recreation opportunities, camping locations, and much more."
