With the exception of its 3.3-mile spur to AR 369, the Viles Branch Equestrian Trail is a good ride for beginners in shape for distance. The 22-mile main loop uses 11 miles of Forest Service Roads 38 and 106, 10 miles on old logging roads with easy grades, and only 1 mile of technical single-track. Though the single-track section is technical, and part of it will have to be walked, it passes through the beautiful Winding Stairs, where you'll want to be off your bike and checking the scenery anyway. This ride will take you through the Winding Stairs, one of the most beautiful places in the Ouachita Mountains. It's a place of cascades, waterfalls, deep swimming holes, and lush pine forest, hemmed in by fascinating rock walls and geologic formations. This trail is located 60 miles southwest of Hot Springs.
