Hot Springs National Park, 50 miles southwest of Little Rock, is one of the only national parks in the middle of a city. At the turn of the century, the park’s geothermal springs, believed to have healing powers, attracted the wealthy from around the world. While it’s still possible to enjoy a soak, the Hot Springs area woos families by offering a wide variety of attractions plus recreation in the park, at nearby lakes, and in the surrounding Ouachita Mountains. An influx of $100 million worth of new attractions, new stores and new hotels, motels, and restaurants is turning Hot Springs into an up-and-coming— but still family-friendly—place.
