I hiked the southern half of this trail as a there-and-back day-hike in mid-March. I climbed as far as the spur trail to a hill top at around 3.5 miles, and then turned back. It took me 5 hours in total, including fairly lenthy stops.
I enjoyed this tough hike. The terrain underfoot was fairly challenging - pretty stony/rocky, and the path is consistently narrow. The constant climb-descent-climb pattern makes for a pretty strenuous hike, but the views at Eagle Rock and then at the far-point of my hike were worth it. These aren't "real" mountains obviously - not like you find in the west, but I nevertheless found the view and the breeze at Eagle Rock to be exhilarating - and it was certainly hard work!
