Lake Fort Smith State Park: Shepherd Springs Loop Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Here’s a new loop trail the whole family will enjoy. This trail was completed in the spring of 2013 and follows a portion of the Ozark Highlands Trail (OHT), 200-plus miles long and growing. Don’t worry though. You’ll only be doing 5.3 miles on this loop route.
Begin with a tour through the Lake Fort Smith Visitor Center. Inside, you’ll find 2,000 square feet of exhibits, including a bird-viewing area, a historical covered wagon, and a replica of the springs. Children may enjoy playing dress up with costumes representative of early settlers who occupied the area. This hike begins at the trailhead of the Ozark Highlands Trail located on the east side of the visitor center."
