Hurricane Creek begins near the community of Deer, Arkansas, and flows southwest for 18.5 miles to its confluence with Big Piney Creek just north of Fort Douglas. The creek flows through the Hurricane Creek Wilderness, and there is no access below Chancel. The scenery along the creek is some of the best in the state. Paddlers can expect a stream that is a step up from the Big Piney but not as challenging as Richland Creek. Willow jungles and strainers must be contended with, so competent boat control is a prerequisite for running Hurricane Creek. If you have any doubts about your ability to catch eddies and backferry, do not attempt this creek.
