Scenic 7 Byway South: Russellville to Hot Springs, AR Professional Review and Guide
"A 69-mile drive south from Russellville across the Arkansas River valley, into the Ouachita Mountains, and ending at Hot Springs. The drive begins in the Arkansas River valley, which is considered a subregion of the Ouachitas. The valley occupies a band running from 25 to 35 miles wide, separating the Ozarks to the north from the Ouachita Mountains to the south. Although it is composed primarily of the floodplains and terraces of the Arkansas, Fourche LaFave, Petit Jean, and Poteau rivers and their tributaries, several ridges rise conspicuously above the valley floor. Examples include Mount Magazine, Mount Nebo, and Petit Jean Mountain; Mount Magazine, at 2,753 feet, is the highest point in Arkansas as well as the Midwest.
Special attractions: Lake Dardanelle, Dardanelle Rock, Mount Nebo, Ouachita National Recreation Trail, Ouachita National Forest, Scenic 7 Byway, Winona Auto Tour, Flatside Wilderness Area, Buffalo Gap Auto Tour, Iron Springs Recreation Area, and Hot Springs; scenic views, camping, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, swimming, crystal prospecting, fall colors, fishing, and hunting. This eTrail is a complete description of a scenic drive with a route map and information on the best travel seasons, interesting sites, recreation opportunities, camping locations, and much more."
