This trail around the lofty heights of Mt. Nebo features huge sandstone boulders. Bench Road Trail follows an old roadbed that circles around the mountain just below Rim Trail. The trees of the forest are mostly hardwood; in spring and summer they shade the trail with a full, green canopy. Initially the trail is fairly level, but it soon begins to seesaw up and down. It features gray sandstone boulders that in some instances are 15 to 20 feet thick.

This trail is very runnable! It is only 4 miles if you do the complete exterior of the trail including a little loop off to the left down in the camping area. We race this in mid December and times are fast. Men are doing it in the 20s and ladies in the low 30s. I ran it in 32 minutes year before last. The last mile is downhill and rolling. The third mile is so slow you just wanna be finished. Beautiful water falls rolls when it rains otherwise she stays dry. Also avoid the sweet gum balls less you want to twist an ankle. Here is a link to trail results http://www.arkansasrunner.com/archives/results2010/btr4m10.htm......another race happens here that encompasses the road on top and the bench as well for about 14 miles of running. It's in August. Here's some old results from that http://www.runarkansas.com/Nebo2011.htm
