This trail winds through a mostly hardwood forest near the DeGray Lake shoreline. Quartz gravel covers the first section of the trail, where an arrow points to the right. Cross-tie steps descend toward a wooden bridge that spans a small stream. Once over the bridge, the trail is packed earth without the gravel. The trail curves upward past purple wildflowers and lots of poison ivy. In areas like this we considered nominating poison ivy as the state plant. Mushrooms, some of which take root in decaying logs, are as orange as the trail blazes. Markers also show the way around the loop.
