Furnace Trail

Furnace Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Visit the remains of the Bibb Furnace, another one of the productive iron furnaces from central Alabama’s past. The Furnace Trail takes you past the remains of the furnace, both from the front and the back, as well as the reservoir that once fed water to the massive structure. So far on these treks across Alabama, retracing its long history, you have encountered several hikes to old mining operations and one to a blast furnace, Tannehill.

The last visit to the mining history of the state is at Brierfield Ironworks Historical State Park and the Furnace Trail. Bibb Furnace was a unique venture. When speculators came to Alabama to make their fortune in the burgeoning iron industry, they usually had some semblance of knowledge about the business."
