Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"High atop a pedestal on a ridge overlooking the city of Birmingham is a statue of Vulcan, the Roman god of metalworking. It was erected in honor of the region’s rich iron-producing history, and much of that history can be traced to one of the earliest iron forges in the area at Tannehill Ironworks Historic State Park."

Tannehill Ironworks is a beautiful state park located between Birmingham and Tuscaloosa. They have a number of trails to hike and a great campground, along with several historical attractions you wouldn’t typically expect to see at a state park. The Iron & Steel Museum is really cool – it alone is worth the visit (it’s why we went). They also have a Pioneer Farm. They open craft cabins on the weekends spring through fall.
