This loop hike, which can add up to about 3 miles of walking, is three hikes joined together. First, a woodland walk follows the Eagle Trail and Devil’s Walking Stick Trail through old-growth forest with unusual tree and plant species. A second segment heads into the swamp toward Secret Lake and a 100-foot-tall former fire tower repurposed as a tree-canopy observation deck. Rejoining the road, a final diversion out to the river takes you to Barton’s Beach for a swim. Put them together and you have the makings of a great day.
