Hiking Alabama

The Tom Bevill Interpretive Trail circles around the summit of Ellenburg Mountain. The hike is highlighted by numbered stops that provide a look at the geology and plant life of the mountain. You’ll spot old farmhouse ruins along the way. Trail Surface: Dirt path; short rocky stretch. This path is a nature trail, pure and simple, but the high route around Ellenburg
Mountain and the variety of wildlife and vegetation that can be seen make it a special hike for people of all ages.

To hike the trail most enjoyably, pick up a copy of the brochure A 3 Mile Walk With Nature, available free at the Lake Guntersville State Park office across from the trailhead. Throughout the hike, numbered markers on trees point out historical and natural sites that correspond with a description in the brochure. (The office is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. and on Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.)
