This is the classic urban-forest hike, offering a quick getaway from the city and an immediate immersion in the woods. It culminates in some scenic highlights that can’t be beat. Because you start close to the mountaintop, there isn’t a great deal of elevation change, so you get to stretch your legs without huffing and puffing. This route follows the Quarry Trail to its end, where you can connect to the Overlook Trail. You can even add on the Possum Loop to the end for a total distance of closer to 5 miles.
