Of all the states along the Gulf of Mexico, Alabama enjoys the briefest segment of coastline. Although scant in mileage, this sugary white section of beachfront has been prominent throughout the history of the region. From the prehistoric activity of Creek, Choctaw, Chickasaw, and Cherokee Indians to busy commerce as an exporter of cotton, the Mobile Bay area has been central to the growth of the region. This ride offers several options for touring cyclists. A wide variety of accommodations provides for every taste. The area virtually demands an overnight stay somewhere along the route. You might set up a base camp at Gulf State Park and cycle the full loop in a day. Terrain: flat to rolling.
