Fort Morgan Loop

Fort Morgan Loop Professional Review and Guide

"Two spits of land on the Alabama Gulf Coast jut out into the open waters of the Gulf of Mexico, acting as the symbolic demarcation line between the Gulf and Mobile Bay. To the west is the barrier island known as Dauphin Island, to the east the Fort Morgan peninsula. At the very western tip of this peninsula, you will find this hike, the Fort Morgan Loop.

From the ramparts of Fort Morgan, which overlook the symbolic divide between the Gulf of Mexico and Mobile Bay, you can almost hear the cannons roar, smell the sulfur of gunpowder, and feel the desperation of the Confederate soldiers as they clung to one of the last coastal fortresses in their possession during the Civil War."
