Lake Eufaula, also known as Walter F. George Reservoir, covers 46,000 acres and was formed by the damming of the Chattahoochee River that borders Alabama and Georgia. The US Army Corps of Engineers also built a hydroelectric dam and lock that bears the same name. And while the river was dammed to provide navigation to the Gulf of Mexico and to provide power to the region, thousands of people each year flock to the area for the remarkable outdoor recreational opportunities it also provides. Smack dab in the middle of the lake is a fabulous Alabama state park resort, Lakepoint Resort.
