Oak Mountain State Park Peavine Falls

Oak Mountain State Park: Peavine Falls Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This is the classic family starter hike: a nice drive with spots along the way to stop and take in mountaintop views; a short, steep hike through longleaf pine down into a gorge rich with mountain laurel where you’ll find the landmark waterfall. You’ll see kids, couples, and retirees making this pilgrimage. With add-ons, you can crest Double Oak Mountain and explore a little history too.

In a decently wet year and in the cooler months, you’ll get a really pretty scene. Peavine Branch—so named because the mountain stream is as twisty as a pea vine—suddenly goes from a meandering creek down a drop of more than 20 feet. It then tumbles through cascades and chutes below that, losing a total of 65 feet of elevation. At the base of the first big falls are a pool and boulders to perch on as you ponder the rewards of getting away to this deep, sheltered canyon."
