"Covering 466 acres in northeast Jefferson County, the Turkey Creek Nature Preserve has it all: some of the earliest settlement history, the most complex geology, and the most varied ecology you’ll find around Birmingham. What’s under the water also inspires wonder.

Turkey Creek and its tributaries are home to three endangered species of fish, including the vermilion darter, a 2-inch rainbow of a fish that occurs in Turkey Creek and nowhere else in the world. is hike climbs and traverses a ridge above Turkey Creek, then follows a drainage back to scenic Turkey Creek Falls, the preserve’s central attraction."
