This hike can be a pretty good overnight trip culminating in a visit to Lake Chinnabee Recreation Area, where you can swim in the pools formed by the falls of Chinnabee Creek. The hike includes views of the surrounding mountains as you travel the ridgelines. Trail Surface: Dirt and rock footpath.

Weather: Rainy, Damp and Cool. Started at Lake Chinnabee on the Silent Trail.(1.6m) at the Skyway Loop we headed for Adams Gap(6m). From Adams Gap We took the Pinhoti to the intersection of the Chinnabee Silent and the Odom Scout Trail Down into Turnipseed Hunter Camp(11m). The Chinnabee to Skyway is a nice fairly flat short hike. We encountered many switcth backs once on the Skyway. There was plenty of water along the way. Rain(deluge) the week prior made for interesting creek crossings, but did not slow us down. The leaves were still in the trees and not covering the Trail. The leaves had not lost their Summer green yet. The White Oak Acorns had hit the ground and it was like walking on large peebles.(They are huge!!) The skyway tended to be a little overgrown in places and in many areas had lost the Critical edge. (Could use some work.) We encountered several blow downs alond the way all were passable, But a nusance. Once on the Pinhoti the trail was typical Pinhoti Uphill and Rocky. The Rock gardens were fun and lunch at the top was fantastic. Great trip Great Trail...

connected to skyway from silent. almost from the beginning i wanted to turn back and camp at the lake!! this trail is overgrown, trees down, not many creeks for water, really a miserable experience. it does have a nice campsite at hubard creek ( i think) about a mile from 281 trail head. should have linked pinhoti and silent , camped at lake chinnabee. Will try that next time!! 2 days of hiking better than 2 days of wrk!!! The trails are well marked!!! Might not be that bad in the fall or winter. I believe the skeeters are immune to 100% deet

Nice trail. A few good overlooks, lots of stream crossings, a couple of pretty good climbs.
