Just north of the state capital of Montgomery, two major rivers—the Tallapoosa and Coosa—converge to form the Alabama. The resultant river forms a much larger current that flows south through the central part of the state until it eventually merges with the Tombigbee and several other rivers to form the second-largest river delta in the country, the Mobile–Tensaw. Eventually, it spills into the Gulf of Mexico.
