Swan Lake and Swanson River Canoe Routes Professional Review and Guide
"A long chain of lakes, streams, and rivers in the wooded northwestern Kenai Peninsula offers outstanding canoeing. Take a day or a week—many route variations are possible. More time means more fun exploring and fishing. Portages are marked and cleared, and most are short.
The lakes come in a variety of sizes and shapes, the smaller ones usually protected from wind and rough water, the larger ones offering bays for exploring and views of the Kenai Mountains. A rich variety of waterbirds inhabit these waters, including many species of ducks and shorebirds, loons, snipes, and swans. Anglers will find rainbow trout, Dolly Varden, steelhead trout, and landlocked salmon. Watch for moose, beavers, muskrats, and bears. In early winter the lakes can offer good ice skating, and after the snow pack is in place, the ski touring potential is endless."
